Cold season! A stuffed up nose will affect your sleep, and poor sleep is the first domino that can cause all sorts of problems.
So here are some tips that have worked for me, maybe they can help you to get your sleep back on track and help you feel great!
1 – Medications
Powders, lotions and pills such as Beechams, Vic’s etc are all great for helping to ease the congestion. Try them out and see what works for you!
2 – An extra pillow.
Being slightly more vertical may help with keeping your airways clear and sleeping on my back is probably the worst position for me. You can give it a try and see how you get on.
3- Humidifier in the bedroom.
This will keep your mouth from drying out and you can add some menthol oils to it, I find this really helps keep me breathing well at night.
4 – Had a bad nights sleep? Don’t sleep in!
This is the hardest one. I find that if I sleep in all that happens is I go to bed later that next night, and it is a vicious cycle where my sleep just gets progressively worse.
5 – Don’t skip your workouts!
I often find that if you let yourself skip your workouts it the start of spiral of you giving yourself permission to skip a workout every time you don’t feel 100%. And if you do that you are not going to get anywhere with your strength training.
6 – Keep your bed time the same!
When we are not feeling great it can be tempting to watch a little more TV late at night, or scroll on your phone for that dopamine hit. As a result you end up going to be later than normal and it ends up being a cycle of later and later nights. I have done it myself. What I try and do is be aware of this connection and try to get to bed at the same time I normally do (around 10.30pm).
That’s all I’ve got just now, if you found this useful, why not send it to a friend? It might just help them get a good nights sleep!
